چکیده

Coupling multiple nodes for high performance transaction processing has become increasingly attractive for reasons of capacity, availability and cost. The shared disks (SD) cluster couples computing nodes via a highspeed network and share a common database at the disk level. This paper proposes a transaction routing algorithm that exploits access affinities of transactions to rationalize workload on computing nodes in the SD cluster. The proposed algorithm is novel in the sense that it can achieve an optimal balance between affinitybased routing and dynamic load balancing. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm exhibits substantial performance improvement when transaction workload is changed dynamically.

Prototyping PHLOX, A High Performance Transaction Processing System on a Workstation Cluster with Shared Disks

Coupling multiple workstations for high performance transaction processing has become increasingly attractive for reasons of capacity, cost, and availability. PHLOX is a prototypical transaction processing system running on the workstation cluster with shared disks. PHLOX supports a message oriented file system for database sharing, global cache coherency and concurrency control, affinity-based...

An Analysis of Three Transaction Processing Architectures

In this paper, we investigate the issues involved in using multiprocessors for high performance transaction processing applications. We use a simulation model to compare the performance of three different architectures, namely, Shared Everything, Shared Nothing and Shared Disks. In Shared Everything, any processor can access any disk and all memory is shared. In Shared Nothing, neither disks no...

Part II: A Methodology for Developing Deadlock-Free Dynamic Network Reconfiguration Processes

Network Reconfiguration Processes Olav Lysne, Timothy Mark Pinkston and José Duato Abstract Dynamic network reconfiguration is defined as the process of changing from one routing function to another while the network remains up and running. The main challenge is in avoiding deadlock anomalies while keeping restrictions on packet injection and forwarding minimal. Current approaches either requir...

A New Hybrid Routing Algorithm based on Genetic Algorithm and Simulated Annealing for Vehicular Ad hoc Networks

In recent years, Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANET) as an emerging technology have tried to reduce road damage and car accidents through intelligent traffic controlling. In these networks, the rapid movement of vehicles, topology dynamics, and the limitations of network resources engender critical challenges in the routing process. Therefore, providing a stable and reliable routing algorithm is ...

On Affinity Based Routing in Multi-System Data Sharing

Multiple systems coupling incurs performance degradation due to inter-system (global) lock conlention and database buffer invalidation. At high transaction rates, the level of inter-syslem interference can have a severe hnpact on performance. In this paper, we propose a scheme for transaction routing lhat reduces inter-system interference while keeping load nearly balanced. The routing decision...
